Sweetheart City Racing exists to put on engaging events within the community of Loveland, CO. This page is to serve as a hub for running in our area. We hope you'll find an event or group run/walk you can engage in with the best community in CO.
An organization dedicated to providing fun, challenging and varied opportunities for runners of all abilities, from walkers to recreational joggers to ultra-marathoners.
Members will receive regular email updates on the local running/race scene, discounts from local merchants including most all running shoe stores, and discounted entry fees on club sponsored races. The club provides organized fun runs, track workouts, and a chance to meet running partners, all in a safe and fun environment.
Shane and Sara McWatters - Founding Directors
Sara McWatters is the Race Director and co-founder of Sweetheart City Racing (SCR) Originally from Texas, she moved to Loveland in 2012 with her husband, SweetHeart City co-founder Shane McWatters, their two children and three dogs.
Shane and Sara started running when they were 28, not to win any race, but to feel better. Together they joined a running club in Loveland and quickly made friends in the running community. As the needs of the club began to grow Sara was asked to expand the clubs capacity by becoming something bigger. She changed the name of the non profit from Loveland Road Runners to Sweetheart City Racing, began planning races, and SCR was born.
Guided by the values of Sara and Shane, SCR is dedicated to the community of Loveland and to anyone who wants to get out, see more of our city, and feel stronger and better in their bodies. “We are truly a family business. Our kids, Avari (16) and Keegan (14) help out on race day and throughout the year. We love to be outside in the mountains, hiking, mountain biking, taking the dogs (Dan, Missy, and Lucy) for runs and walks. Our house is divided in the winter with Sara and Keegan on snowboards and Shane and Avari on skis. We love to spend time with friends over a beer at one of our favorite downtown Loveland spots.

It is an honor to be part of Sweetheart City racing. Sara and Shane have a tremendous passion for community, connection, and encouragement. Their vision for a healthier Loveland and Northern Colorado community is creating a movement for a better-inspired lifestyle. As a board member, it is encouraging to be part of a purpose for our community through Sweetheart City Racing.

“We started this with just two races and to see it has grown to what we manage now, is almost unbelievable. We love seeing the participants cross the finish line and how we’ve grown to know so many amazing people and stories over the last several years, is incredibly humbling. Being able to provide the community with a healthy active day out is so fun! Seeing people achieve a goal of things like their very first 5K all the way to personal goals on the marathon, is amazing. It is truly an honor to be part of someone’s journey along that road. We love being part of the Loveland community and be able to show off all our incredible town has to offer. We do this because it offers people a fun, healthy way to be part of the best community. It gives our participants a platform to achieve what they want.”
