Enjoying our Running Community

2020 was a rough time for just about everyone and those who love to run and who especially love to compete in races were no exception. Sure, there were many virtual 5Ks and even some half marathons, but it just wasn't quite the same. There is something about gathering together with other runners for a race that can't be duplicated by virtual events.

What Northern Colorado race events are coming up?

Now that we're well into 2021, most Colorado runners have checked race calendars for upcoming events and may have even already competed in a race or two. If you click on the “Run Events” tab on our website, you will find a calendar of upcoming races in the area along with links where you can register for specific races or get more information.

We are excited to be sponsoring two upcoming events. The first is the Loveland Valley 5000 which will be held on August 20 from 6:00--8:00pm. The race begins at Mehaffey Park and will benefit House of Neighborly Services, an organization that assists and advocates for people challenged by the effects of poverty or facing a situational crisis.

The second event will be The Long View Marathon and Half Marathon on October 3. This race showcases a unique city-to-city trail connection that runs from Fort Collins to Loveland. Together, Gnar Runners of Fort Collins and Sweetheart City Racing in Loveland bring a unique collaboration to Colorado’s running scene in a one-of-a-kind race event. Again, details and registration for both events can be found on here on our site!

What if I’m not wanting to run in races?

No problem! Walkers & Joggers are also welcome to our events! If you love to walk or run and you want to enjoy the company of other runners that was missing for most of last year and the beginning of this one, you will also find non-race events on our calendar. We have a Thursday night group run that starts from a variety of Loveland breweries at 5:30 on Thursday evenings and our Harvest Night Fun Run and Festival in October that features a two-mile run, entertainment, vendors, and a costume contest. This event benefits the Loveland Parks and Recreation Foundation. We host lots of other fun running events throughout the year, so be sure to check our calendar often for the events and races that most appeal to you.

We want to encourage everyone to appreciate the opportunity that we have to finally run together again because the last year helped all of us to see that it is not something we should take for granted. Whether it's the support and encouragement that we get from others or the thrill of competing against others in a race, runners have their own little community and we miss it when we're separated from it. Sure, most runners spend the bulk of their training in individual daily runs, but that's part of the allure of then being able to share our love of running with others who share our passion.

Sharing what we love.

It's kind of like reading a book or hearing a song that really holds meaning for you, you want, almost immediately to share it with the people who mean the most to you. Most people have said to others something along the lines of “oh, my gosh, you have to read (or hear/see) this book (or song/movie). It is amazing!” When we love something, we want to share it with others so that they can love it too. When we connect with other runners, we already know that we share so much in common and we can then get on a granular level with our passion for running: the running shoes we like the most; which annual races we really love; the best ways we've found to carb-load (or why we don't). Tips for hot- or cold-weather-running. The topics, conversations, and friendships are endless and we can return to them with every race and event.

Back together again!

Take a look at our calendar today to find at least one in-person event or race that you'd like to participate in between now and year's end so that we can all celebrate 2021 as the year where we got to share our love of running with like-minded folks, to gather together in support and fellowship, to run together once more. Sweetheart City Racing is SUPER excited that we can be with you again!
